What's a Changeling?

Traditionally, a changeling is a faerie who's been switched with a human child or adult. But I don't think that's the only qualification—especially considering my own case.I was not switched out at birth, nor later on in life. Instead, there seems to have been some latent fair folk ancestry that decided to resurface after... The Accident.I started to change. First, I started seeing unusual things usually kept hidden. Second Sight (also called True Sight) can see through all sorts of glamour magic. This turned out to be a double-edged sword, because there are some downright disturbing creatures out there ready and willing to stare back from the abyss.Bells seem to keep some of the nastier looking things at bay, thankfully.Second, I grew some new bits and bobs: a set of moth-like antennae (I just call them moth ears), a pair of thin horns, and a ridiculously big, fluffy tail. No wings though. Many types of fair folk have no wings at all, so there's a good chance that I'll never get any.(Update: the horns fell off! Anything is game, I suppose.)(Addendum: Right, forgot to mention that my tail phases through my clothing. Convenient!)At first, I thought everyone would be freaking out over this, but it seems like my own glamour magic comes easily and without second thought. Shapeshifting to new forms, however, requires both steady concentration and effort to master. Studying others' glamour magic speeds the process up considerably.

Third, lies have an odd taste on my tongue now. Depending on the lie, it's almost painful. Fourth, some things once considering mundane are now potentially life-threatening to me.

A Dream Bubble

Recently, I fell through an open bit of space into The Void. It's like an in-between place with absolutely nothing but liminal absence (unless you happen to stumble upon someone's abandoned structural magic projects). I was able to just barely pull myself out—good thing the hole was in the wall and not the floor!I hired someone to patch up the hole, but it must have some sort of hold on me, because I keep returning there whenever I go to sleep. Like an endless nightmare with an extra dose of sleep paralysis. Consulted with several experts specializing in this field, and I was advised on several strategies to keep it "as under control as possible."I've now gotten pretty good at manifesting my Dream Bubble whenever I fall asleep. In fact, I may have figured out a way to make it a permanent structure in The Void. Any other poor souls who end up there will at least have somewhere to temporarily take refuge until I can show them the backdoor in my bubble.
